Durham Success Summit (DSS) was developed outside of the existing public school, workforce development, and criminal justice systems as an innovative and comprehensive approach to reengaging Black male "opportunity youth" for whom those systems had failed. Black men in Durham were engaged in the process of defining what they needed and continue to guide the creation of our programs and initiatives.
DSS is investing in a more stable economic foundation for Black boys and young men in our city at a critical period of their lives where they are forming their visions of the future and expectations of society.
We seek a balanced pool of candidates and have no prerequisites or special requirements.
A rigorous, 12-week cohort-based career readiness program for competitively selected high school and early college Black men seeking leadership growth and clarity on careers and job opportunities.
An intensive, 6-month business incubator that provides entrepreneurial training, mentorship, and seed funding to help launch and scale successful businesses that are sustainable, growth-oriented, and purpose-driven.
An inclusive, full day of keynote presentations and intentional networking activities that brings together experienced business leaders from multiple industries to connect with Durham's youth.
A unique space for deliberative dialogue between high impact community leaders and young men to help them make connections and build more confidence in articulating their vision for community. Youth can practice their networking skills, share business cards, and gain insight on potential career and educational opportunities available.
